My students researched a desert animal, wrote a report, and shared their report. We used so many skills like collaboration. We used technology to allow the students to share their reports - like Voicethread, and Tarheelreader.org

My students are doing a writing assignment where they have to interview a staff member at Fairview. They must write their own questions, schedule a time to meet, conduct the interview, and write a feature article. This lends itself to so many 21st Century skills. It is not only about technology. They are communicating, collaborating, and learning social & cross-cultural skills. Very important skills for the 21st century.

Last week, Jen Cueller and I planned an awesome session for my class to come down to her classroom to use the smartboard. My fourth grade students LOVED it!!! We did a lesson on angles (since we were studying that particular concept in math), and we did a lesson on prefixes and suffixes (a current focus in our spelling curriculum). My students kept talking about this experience. They also keep asking when we can go back again!

I incorporated some 21st Century skills into a lesson on 17th Century history. Sounds kinda like an adventure with Bill & Ted, but it was most invigorating!

I love using my smartboard with the students. It makes learning so fun and interactive.

Karen, I too, had my students broaden their horizons through the exploration of worldwide current events. My students collaborated to find an article that not only appealed to their entire group, but also spoke of events happening around our world. Students took on leadership roles and created news broadcasts to present their article to the class. I was able to videotape these broadcasts and will be posting them on my website in the near future.

Yes Jonas. I do believe that with these skills our students may eventually create amazing things in the future, maybe even a rocket ship from their home one day.

Well put, Becky! These are the skills that will help students solve problems in the future, like the K12.

Hear hear Jonas! I agree completely. I try to remember that while 21st century skills incorporates technology, it's only one part. So, doing things like Time for Kids and having discussions related to current events on a regular basis are other ways of building 21st century skills. I look at 21st century skills as making our students globally aware, competitive, future problem solvers. How will they make contributions?
